Together, we will start discussing what you want to achieve by engaging the support at Tharros. There are general rules of the house that everyone is required to follow. However, experience has shown us, not every person with an addiction or alcoholism is the same. Our program isn’t cookie ­cutter; we want to get to know you and help ensure that you have what is necessary for you to achieve your goals. We help you see, what it is about you, you may have a hard time seeing. Teras, also located in Lexington MA, offers a less structured, but still supportive model of high standards sober living.

Our sober living home reinforces honesty and integrity as we provide support along the journey to cultivating a new, constructive and optimistic sober lifestyle. With more than 50 years of recovery experience, our team understands what you’re going through and we want to help you love life again. ​Some treatment facilities provide care for 30, 60 or 90+ days.

At Teras, our experienced team, plus ancillary providers, provide a high level of support for clients to take action in a recovery fellowship, and engage outside structure. With 24/7 management and support , we can help you find an appropriate job, connect with the recovery community through volunteer opportunities and activities, find the right treatment resources, and build a foundation in sobriety. Learning to live a happy life free of alcohol and drugs takes time,  but you can do it if you want to. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive community, combining individual and group interactions to facilitate building a meaningful life in sobriety. Successful long-term recovery is more than just abstinence from substances it’s a lifestyle change; replacing negative or unhealthy behaviors/patterns with positive coping skills, healthy routines, community and support. We believe life balance, structure, engagement, social interactions, positive perception and challenging old behaviors/beliefs are the key to a successful recovery.

Asking vulnerable questions in the kitchen encourages them to do the same when they step out into the world. When they get the hang of a skill, they can then turn to a buddy who needs assistance. We support each other’s path as well as to share what we have mastered. Some guys come naturally to working with dough, while others are more comfortable with a knife. Tharros offers a shared (double) space for $9,500 per month.

Dr. Zarnegar has over 30 years of experience in behavioral health and clinical treatment. Dr. Zarnegar serves on the Advisory Board for Tharros House and helps to direct resource and team development. Her clinical insight also provides guidance for the development of client support services. At Tharros House, we take a custom approach to each client, starting with a full understanding of each client’s needs and goals. Our team connects with each client’s clinical providers to help understand what supports are needed before he arrives at Tharros. At Tharros House, you can expect to meet other male residents who are committed to their sobriety, have completed some form of primary treatment, and pass regular unannounced breathalyzer and urine tests.

That’s why we encourage our clients to consider staying 6 months to one year. At Teras, clients work with their on-site case manager and our vocational coach to develop a recovery fellowship and engage work. Clients of Teras may also be involved in outpatient treatment while they develop a foundation in their recovery work, and apply to work positions. After 30 days, clients are expected to be employed while they continue progress in their recovery work. They continue to meet with their case manager weekly and participate in community support activities.

He started his recovery journey atan inpatient, recovery program, outside of his hometown of Philadelphia. He spent13 months in the Tharros community, giving him a unique ability to relate to theclients he works with. He worked as an actor and teacher in theBoston area before finding a passion for working with other recovering addicts andalcoholics. Inside of his work at Tharros House, he has found the empathicconnection and capacity for change he was always looking for in acting.

Our community offers extensive structure, much of which is optional. Peer to peer support is an essential component of recovery and The Tharros House only accepts residents who have made a commitment to giving recovery a chance; we work together as a community to overcome the challenges in early recovery. Tharros House is a private peer program which is not affiliated with any state or federal offerings. Testimonials are available on our site, and we are happy to connect you with families and past clients who can share their experience with you. We take privacy seriously, and client information is not shared with any outside sources, except those affiliated with treatment, or which the client otherwise requests. Monthly fees at Tharros include food for all meals and snacks, transportation by our team in commercially insured SUVs, all activities, Tharros groups, and peer mentoring support. At Teras, we offer structured sober living with flexible structure to meet the needs of those returning to family, work, school, or other commitments.

A study of 300 individuals whom resided in Sober Living Homes (SLH) was published in 2010 by a division of the NIH (National Institute of Health) (Douglas L. Polcin, 2010). That study found that freestanding SLH’s offer enough structure, with no formal treatment, creating an optimal environment for residents ready for the next step. SLH’s provide an environment for individuals capable of handling a fair amount of autonomy and wish to take personal responsibility for their recovery. Teras and Tharros are not affiliated with any clinical treatment (IOP/PHP, etc.) and our focus is on helping each client engage the best clinical support for their own circumstance. We have many local connections, including McLean Hospital, and we  help clients who don’t have clinical supports in place connect with appropriate resources.
